Stavros Gentile received his B.Eng. from the Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning in 2024 in electrical engineering. While completing his undergraduate studies, he worked at the Centre for Intelligent Manufacturing as a research assistant. After graduation he worked with a small start-up as a hardware engineer helping to design and build fall detection sensors.
Stavros began his M.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering under the supervision of Dr. Ali Emadi in January 2025 at the McMaster Automotive Resource Centre (MARC). His research is in the field of power electronics, while also working with the power electronics team on the Stellantis research project.
Full Profile
Stavros’ path into engineering and research began early, where he would observe his father’s electronic hobby. As curiosity began to build Stavro decided to pursue a diploma in electronics. As mathematics and problem-solving began to evolve in the program, he knew it was time to get a formal bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
During his studies, Stavros began work at the Centre for Intelligent Manufacturing at Sheridan College in 2022. The experience allowed him to build prototypes and proof of concepts for various different industries and external clients. Some notable projects include a joint project with McMaster University, where he and his team built a medical device for patients with Lymphedema. Stavros also worked with a small start-up, where he helped build fall detection devices to be used in a pilot program.
Currently, Stavros is working with the team at the McMaster Automotive Resource Centre (MARC) under the supervision of Dr. Ali Emadi. He is pursuing his M.A.Sc in mechanical engineering with a focus on power electronics, while also working with the Stellantis power electronics team.
Outside of engineering, Stavros is a passionate aviation enthusiast with a keen interest in the aviation industry. He also enjoys exploring a wide range of sports and continuously learning more about them.
