Full Profile
As a Ph.D. student in mechanical engineering at the McMaster Automotive Resource Centre (MARC), Chen’s research interests include electric vehicle systems, battery modeling and optimization, advanced control strategies, and robotics.
His technical experience covers a broad range of areas, including system modeling, control algorithm development, mechanical design, CAD/CAE, finite element analysis, programming, experimental validation, and hands-on prototyping.
His previous research includes the design, fabrication, and control of a 4-DOF pneumatic collaborative robot using origami-inspired pneumatic actuators. He has applied control methods such as model predictive control, impedance control, sliding mode control, PID control, field-oriented control, Kalman-filter-based estimation, and sensor fusion to robotic and electromechanical systems. In addition to simulation and algorithm development, he has hands-on experience with prototype assembly, manufacturing tools, lab testing, troubleshooting, and hardware implementation.
