Full Profile

Batuhan Sirri Yilmaz’s passion for engineering began in childhood, fueled by curiosity and a drive for excellence. This motivated him to pursue electrical engineering at Istanbul Technical University, where he graduated in 2023.

During his undergraduate studies, Batuhan gained hands-on experience through internships at leading companies. He started as a sustainability engineering intern at Ford Motor Company, contributing to environmentally focused initiatives. He then joined GAMAK Motor, Turkey’s leading electric motor manufacturer, conducting simulations and analyses of induction motor designs for industrial applications. This experience strengthened his interest in electric motor design.

He spent a year at Arçelik, a major appliance manufacturer in Turkey, working on the design and control of electric motors for an electric motorcycle. This role exposed him to both design and manufacturing processes and helped him develop expertise in electric motor systems.

After graduation, Batuhan joined McMaster University as a master’s student in electrical engineering under Dr. Berker Bilgin at the McMaster Automotive Resource Centre (MARC). His research focuses on the design and multi-physics optimization of electric motors for traction applications, aiming to improve efficiency and performance in electric vehicles.

Batuhan’s academic and professional journey reflects a deep commitment to innovation in electric mobility. Early involvement with an electric vehicles club sparked a focus that has become central to his career. He remains dedicated to pushing the boundaries of his field while continually learning and contributing to the future of electrified transportation.
