Dr. Carlos Vidal serves as Senior Principal Research Engineer and the leader of the Mobility Cube, a Centre of Excellence in artificial intelligence and smart mobility, at McMaster University, Canada. The Mobility Cube was established through a multi-million-dollar collaboration between McMaster University and Cubic Transportation Systems. Carlos has extensive experience in the automotive, batteries, renewables, and smart mobility industries. His research interests include digital twinning, Li-ion batteries, artificial intelligence (AI), and Energy Storage Systems (ESS) for electric vehicles and renewables applications.
Carlos earned his B.S. in electrical engineering from the Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG), an MBA with a concentration in project management from Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV), his M.A.Sc. in civil and environmental engineering from the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) in Brazil, and his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from McMaster University, Canada. After completing his Ph.D., Carlos joined the McMaster Automotive Research Centre (MARC) as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, until October 2021. He then transitioned to leading the Mobility Cube, where he has been applying his leadership and expertise in artificial intelligence, modelling, battery management systems, and intelligent mobility. His hope is to drive innovation, while developing sustainable solutions for the future of transportation and the adoption of cleaner technologies.
