Igor Del-Vecchio obtained his B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from the Universidade Federal de São João Del Rei (UFSJ), Brazil, in 2022. Currently, he is pursuing a Master’s degree at the McMaster Automotive Resource Centre (MARC), supervised by Dr. Ali Emadi. His research interests revolve around vehicle modeling and electrified powertrain architecture.
Full Profile
Igor was born in a small town in the southeast of Brazil. Since childhood, he has been deeply interested in cars and wanted to understand how they work. His passion for engineering grew stronger when he took a part-time technical course in mechanical machining during high school. This experience motivated him to pursue a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
During his undergraduate years, he actively participated as a member of the Baja SAE team at his university for approximately three years. This engagement challenged him to participate in designing and building a prototype off-road vehicle to compete against other Brazilian university teams. Due to his in-depth understanding of the vehicle’s subsystems, he was designated the prototype driver during tests and SAE official competitions. Moreover, he took charge of the team’s machining division, where he became the first team member to program and operate a CNC machine. He also researched within the chassis division, studying the correlation between different materials and torsional stiffness performance levels for a Baja vehicle-type chassis.
His career in the automotive industry began in 2018 with a co-op at Magneti Marelli, a multinational supplier of shock absorbers. During this time, he worked with the WCM methodology team, specifically focusing on autonomous maintenance activities. Following this, he joined another co-op at Brembo, a global lead supplier of automotive brakes, where he concentrated activities on product development and project management. In 2021, Igor started his role as a prototype build engineer at Stellantis LATAM. He managed prototype components to build mule vehicles for projects of Fiat, Jeep, and RAM brands for the Brazilian market. Within two months of starting, Igor had the opportunity to work remotely with the US Stellantis prototype team, which marked his first international professional experience.
Igor became a Master’s student on Dr. Ali Emadi’s team at McMaster Automotive Resources Centre (MARC) in 2024. His research interests are in vehicle modeling and electrified powertrain architecture.
