Industry Focus: Aerospace Electrification; Automotive Electrification; Electric Vertical Take-off and Landing (eVTOL) Aircraft

Kyuyeong Kim received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from Kunsan National University and Seoul National University of Science and Technology, Korea, in 2017 and 2020, respectively. Before joining McMaster University, he worked as a senior research engineer at LG Innotek, developing automotive DC-DC converters, and as a research engineer at ADT, developing power conversion hardware for industrial motor drive inverters. In 2025, he joined the McMaster Automotive Resource Centre (MARC) as a Ph.D. student in electrical and computer engineering under the supervision of Dr. Ali Emadi. His current research focuses on the development of DC-DC converters for aerospace applications, with broader interests in power conversion technologies for automotive and aerospace electrification.

Full Profile

Kyuyeong Kim began his academic journey in electrical engineering at Kunsan National University, Korea, where he received his B.S. degree in 2017. He later earned his M.S. in electrical engineering from Seoul National University of Science and Technology in 2020 under the supervision of Prof. Sewan Choi. During his master’s program, his research focused on the structural design and loss analysis of a GaN-based auxiliary power module for xEV applications, with an emphasis on high-frequency power conversion for automotive electrification.

Following his graduate studies, Kyuyeong gained industry experience in power electronics and automotive power conversion. He worked as a senior research engineer at LG Innotek in the automotive development department, where he contributed to the development of automotive DC-DC converters, including 800V-to-12V auxiliary power modules. Prior to that, he worked as a research engineer at ADT, developing SMPS for inverter internal power supplies and hardware for industrial motor drive inverters.

In 2025, Kyuyeong joined the McMaster Automotive Resource Centre (MARC) as a Ph.D. student in electrical and computer engineering under the supervision of Dr. Ali Emadi. His current research focuses on the development of DC-DC converters for aerospace applications. Through his research, he aims to contribute to advanced power conversion technologies for automotive and aerospace electrification.
