Lucas Nahidmobarakeh obtained his M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the École Nationale Supérieure d’Électricité et de Mécanique (ENSEM) in September 2021. Following a six-month internship at Réseau de Transport d’Électricité (RTE) as an electrical and safety engineer in the electric grid, he pursued an MSc in Marketing of Innovation Products, graduating in October 2022 from ICN Business School. This one-year intensive program led him to Mobiskill, a recruitment firm specializing in tech profiles, where he worked for five months as an intern, followed by eight months as a full-time Business Developer, Tech Recruiter, and Sales Professional.
Lucas began his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering under the guidance of Professor Emadi in September 2023 at the McMaster Automotive Resource Centre (MARC), where his research focuses on electric mobility. In parallel, he is also involved with the Stellantis Power Electronics team.
Full Profile
Lucas’s journey in engineering began at a very young age, with the privilege of visiting laboratories in France, Canada, and the United States. These early experiences solidified his conviction that engineering was his true path. He was determined to be part of this dynamic world.
He began his formal education in engineering at Polytech Nancy in 2016, focusing on fault detection. However, his desire to explore different facets of engineering led him to spend a year abroad, studying aerospace and automotive engineering at Strathclyde University, in Scotland.
Then, his master’s degree has-been completed at ENSEM Nancy in 2021, where his research was focused on multi-phase motor control. Lucas was also part of the Junior Company of his school as a business developer for a year. This period also included a six-month internship as an engineer specializing in the electric grid field.
Driven by a desire to diversify his skill set and broaden his expertise, he pursued an MSc in Marketing of Innovation at ICN Business School. During this program, he was challenged to conceive a product that did not yet exist but had the potential to revolutionize people’s habits. This exercise sparked his interest in self-driving cars, leading him to focus on them for his end-of master’s project, which he successfully completed in 2022.
Upon graduation, Lucas was recruited by Mobiskill for a 5-month internship that was converted into a full-time job as a Tech Recruiter, Business Developer, and Sales Professional. In this role, he developed resilience, a strong work ethic, and improved his ability to negotiate and close deals. He also gained valuable insights into the important role recruitment plays within an organization. However, as he frequently interacted with high-level technical professionals, Lucas found himself missing the technical aspects of engineering more and more.
This realization, combined with his observations of the distinct career trajectories of master’s versus Ph.D. holders, led him to return to the technical field. He chose to pursue a Ph.D. at McMaster University, where he has been working under the supervision of Professor Emadi since September 2023. His topic of research is based on Machine Learning applied to powertrain and storage systems for self-driving cars.
