Srikanth Pillai

Ph.D Student
Research Focus: Machine Learning for Electric Motor Design.
Industry Focus: Aerospace Electrification; Electric Vertical Take-off and Landing (eVTOL) Aircraft; Automotive Electrification; Electric Mobility.

Srikanth Pillai earned a master of technology in electrical and electronics engineering from Mahatma Gandhi University (2012) and a bachelor of technology from Cochin University of Science and Technology (2009). He spent eight years as an assistant professor at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, driven by his passion for teaching.

He joined Dr. Emadi’s research group at the McMaster Automotive Resource Centre (MARC) in 2020. His research focuses on high-performance electrical machine design, especially high specific power motors for aerospace applications. He works on the electromagnetic design of axial and radial flux machines and is also interested in applying artificial intelligence to motor design.

Srikanth has contributed to switched reluctance motor design projects and has hands-on experience in motor modelling, prototyping, and dyno testing.
