Stavros Gentile

Master's Student

Stavros Gentile received his B.Eng. in electrical engineering from the Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, in 2024. During his undergraduate studies, he worked as a research assistant at the Centre for Intelligent Manufacturing. Following graduation, he joined a small start-up as a hardware engineer, contributing to the design and development of fall detection sensors.

In January 2025, Stavros began his M.A.Sc. in mechanical engineering at the McMaster Automotive Resource Centre (MARC) under the supervision of Dr. Ali Emadi. His research focuses on power electronics, and he is currently contributing to the Stellantis research project as part of the MARC power electronics team.

Full Profile

Stavros Gentile’s path into engineering and research began early, inspired by watching his father’s electronics hobby work. As his curiosity grew, he pursued a diploma in electronics, where a growing interest in mathematics and problem-solving led him to work towards a formal bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.

During his studies, Stavros began working at the Centre for Intelligent Manufacturing at Sheridan College in 2022. This role gave him hands-on experience building prototypes and proof-of-concept systems for a wide range of industries and external clients. Notable projects included a joint initiative with McMaster University, where he and his team developed a medical device for patients with lymphedema, and his collaboration with a start-up to design fall detection devices for a pilot program.

Currently, Stavros is pursuing his M.A.Sc. in mechanical engineering at the McMaster Automotive Resource Centre (MARC) under the supervision of Dr. Ali Emadi. His research is focused on power electronics, and he contributes to the Stellantis power electronics team as part of a collaborative research initiative.

Outside of engineering, Stavros is a passionate aviation enthusiast with a strong interest in the aviation industry. He also enjoys exploring a wide range of sports and is committed to lifelong learning.
