Theresa Mitchell started her career at McMaster University in 2004 as an executive assistant in Human Resources. She supported the Chief Human Resources Officer and the Senior Management Team. Her strong time management, excellent customer service, and professional demeanor allowed her to explore other areas of the university. In 2011, she worked at the Centre for Business Career Development. In 2013, she became the administrative assistant for the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Hybrid Powertrain Program. Theresa is currently enrolled in the Management Studies Certificate Program at Mohawk College, which has further enhanced her administrative skills. With over nine years of experience in administrative and support roles, Theresa has worked in a variety of demanding business environments. Her experience includes fast-paced organizations such as Ferrero Canada, Scotia Capital, and CAA. Working closely with senior executives taught her the value of hard work, a positive attitude, and strong work ethics.

Theresa’s pursuit of a professional business career began in her early twenties. Her first administrative experience was a one-year temporary position as Executive Assistant to the President at the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA). This role was a valuable learning experience, as she worked closely with professional executives and the Board of Directors. She enjoyed the fast-paced office environment and wanted to learn more. To enhance her skills, Theresa enrolled in computer courses. Her time working with accomplished professionals prepared her for future opportunities.
Over the years, Theresa has developed a high level of professionalism and executive maturity. This experience gave her confidence to perform well in demanding situations. Accepting new challenges led her to many exciting opportunities. Through these experiences, she gained expertise across different business environments.
In 2006, Theresa moved to Burnaby, British Columbia, with her husband. She worked with the Mining Team at Scotia Capital in downtown Vancouver. She quickly learned the skills required for this new and unique environment. Living away from home and adapting to new surroundings challenged her. She also took up activities like skiing and hiking.
After a year in British Columbia, Theresa returned to Hamilton, Ontario, to work at McMaster University. She has greatly enjoyed being part of the McMaster community. She feels fortunate to work alongside intelligent engineers from around the world. Being part of such a welcoming and professional research team has been exciting.
Outside of work, Theresa enjoys simple pleasures. She loves music, aerobics, and catching up with friends. Above all, she treasures time with her family, especially her two young children, whom she loves dearly.
