Theresa Mitchell started her career with McMaster University in 2004 as Executive Assistant in Human Resources, working for the Chief Human Resources Officer, and Senior Management Team. Her effective time management skills, excellent customer service and professional demeanour gave her the opportunity to experience other areas of McMaster. In 2011, she worked for the Centre for Business Career Development and, in 2013, took on the role of Administrative Assistant, Canada Excellence Research Chair in Hybrid Powertrain Program. Theresa is currently enrolled in the Management Studies Certificate Program at Mohawk College, which has enhanced her skills as an Administrative Professional. With over nine years experience in administrative and support services roles, Theresa has worked in many unique business environments demonstrating a proven ability to excel in demanding surroundings. Some of her fast-paced work environments include Ferrero Canada, Scotia Capital and CAA. Working closely with Senior Executives has taught her the importance of hard work, a positive attitude and strong work ethics.

Theresa’s pursuit to work in a professional business environment started when she was in her early twenties. Her first real experience working in administration started when she applied for a one-year temporary position as the Executive Assistant for the President at Canadian Automobile Association (CAA). This opportunity proved to be a great learning experience, as she was required to work closely with many professional executives as well as the Board of Directors. She enjoyed the fast-paced office environment and was interested in learning more. Along the way, in order to enhance her skillset, Theresa decided to further her education and enroll in some computer courses. Her journey working with such accomplished individuals had greatly prepared her for future opportunities.
Over the years, Theresa has developed a high level of professionalism and executive maturity, which has given her the confidence to perform in demanding situations. Accepting new challenges has led her to many exciting opportunities throughout her life. Through accepting these challenges and meeting new goals, Theresa has gained experience in many different business environments.
In 2006, Theresa started a new chapter in her life and moved to Burnaby, British Columbia, with her husband. During this time, she had the opportunity to work with the Mining Team at Scotia Capital, in downtown Vancouver. She had to quickly learn the skills needed to perform in this new, and unique, working environment. As she overcame the challenges of living away from home and adapting to new surroundings, Theresa challenged herself to try new activities such as skiing and hiking.
After a year out West, Theresa continued her journey and found herself back in Hamilton, Ontario at McMaster University. Being a part of the McMaster community is something that she has greatly enjoyed. She feels truly fortunate to be working amongst such highly intelligent engineers from all over the world, and it’s exciting for her to be a part of such a welcoming and professional research team.
Beyond her work life, Theresa finds that the simple things in life make her the happiest. A few of the things she enjoys the most are music, aerobics, and catching up with old friends. Above all, Theresa enjoys spending lots of time with her family, especially her two young children, whom she loves more than anything.
